Oh the shame…

Another day filming on ‘Dancing on the edge’. This time in Birmingham, just around the corner from the cathedral. A big ballroom scene. 100 dress extras and the full band on the stage (Chiwetel, Angel, Wumni, Chris Storr etc.), miming to the track. The shot involves ME walking down a corridor, keeping pace with the camera, turning into the doorway of the ballroom, revealing the glory of the band on stage and the adoring extras watching. They drop the playback down so I can turn to the staff assembled in the doorway and deliver my lines, camera pans past me to focus on the band as they finish the song and take a bow. Simple.

Except, I forget what the last of my 4 lines is and substitute a fruity expletive. “cut! CUT! CUT!!!” From the director. And I, shame faced, retrace my steps for a re-take. All the more embarrassing as my two sons where on set. Not that they were paying that much attention. Thankfully. I should really find another line of business.
